Resilient Agri-food Systems

IITA aims to increase sustainable agricultural productivity; increase the availability of safe, nutrient-dense foods; reduce threats to human health; and reshape the environmental footprint of agrifood systems.  These gains increase the resilience of smallholder agriculture systems and reduce social inequalities. To achieve these targets, IITA will (i) facilitate the generation and delivery of agronomy-at-scale solutions, (ii) enable the formulation and value from big data and advanced analytics, (iii) build methods and tools for sustainable intensification of mixed farming systems, (iv) bridge knowledge gaps and networks for plant health threat identification, characterization and control. These gains require that IITA builds capability among national stakeholders for risk assessment and data management on order to guide preparedness for rapid response.
