System Transformation

A major focus of IITA is the transformation and modernization of African agriculture as a developmental priority, and IITA must provide scientific guidance to the innovation processes that underlie this goal. This contribution involves interdisciplinary approaches that evaluate policy reforms necessary for transformative scaling of breakthrough technologies and to clearly identify inclusive strategies to ensure gender opportunity in the development process.  Another key is to identify and evaluate solutions for market failures, reducing value-chain inefficiencies that unlock barriers hindering the agribusiness sector. Greater attention is paid to assessing and then informing policy and investments that improve nutrition and health of target populations, with special focus on women and children.
